Heres how l cook them, soak put in baking soda, drain, new water to cook with no baking soda....my goal is to eliminate the gas causing effects...are you supposed to put the baking soda in the water that you boil the beans with or no only the water that you soak with? Thanks.

When cooking black beans, do you leave the baking soda in while cooking

Baking soda does not eliminate the gas effects- nor does it help soften the beans ( although it does help soften water- which may help with the softening of the beans, but not the gas effects..)

Beano helps- but rinsing is key. Rinse well after soaking, then cook beans until soft & rinse well prior to adding other ingredients- this eliminates the gas producing starch on the surface of the beans. If u rinse well enough, u should not need beano, baking soda, or any other product.

The baking soda only goes into the water that you soak the beans in - you are doing it right by soaking, rinsing and using fresh water for cooking.

**** I do not soak my beans in baking soda, once my pot of beans come to a boil I'd dump in a tablespoon of baking soda simmer for approximately a hour, drain, then Cook as you normally would, and I have no trouble with flatulence if they are prepared this way
